WHAT DISTINGUISHES EINSTEIN FROM OTHER PRIVATE SCHOOLS IN THE AREA?
Einstein is proud of our many distinguishing characteristics. We are the only private school in Delaware to offer an immersive dual-language program, as well the only school to offer tiered tuition based on income, which creates transparency about cost. We seek to cultivate in our students a keen idea of who they are, what is important to them, and how they can contribute to the world around them. Our location on the larger Siegel JCC campus provides access to facilities that may be unavailable at smaller private schools. Our commitment to implementing only the very best academic programs available — including Dimensions Math, Houghton Mifflin’s Into Reading, and the TaLAM Hebrew immersion program — ensures that we provide the best education possible for our students. The relationships among Einstein families lead to lifelong friendships and a sense of community. Our commitment to Tikkun Olam – Improving the World – guides our students to grow into responsible global citizens.
HOW DOES THE HEBREW LANGUAGE INSTRUCTION WORK? WILL MY CHILD BE AT A DISADVANTAGE IF WE’RE NOT JEWISH?
Hebrew language instruction at Albert Einstein Academy starts at the very beginning with the Alef Bet. All students work together to master letters and vowels as well as vocabulary. Tutoring is provided for students who join us from other schools or who need additional help.
About one quarter of our students are not Jewish and these children learn Hebrew with no disadvantage at all; in fact one of our recent non-Jewish graduates is planning on majoring in Near Eastern Studies in college.
With iTaLAM, Hebrew instruction in 1st-5th grades includes an individualized online component that includes voice recording. Our whole Hebrew program uses music, games, songs, stories, and posters to create a full, research-based language learning environment.
How do Einstein graduates do in the transition to middle school?
We’re pleased that Einstein graduates go on to do very well in public secondary schools, including Mount Pleasant IB, Charter, and Cab Calloway. They have also been accepted into Tower Hill, Wilmington Friends, Tatnall, Sanford, The Baldwin School, Barrack Academy in Philadelphia and other area private schools.
HOW WELL DO EINSTEIN STUDENTS PERFORM ON STATE TESTING?
Albert Einstein Academy students do not participate in Delaware state educational testing. Instead, our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students take the ERB, which is designed for students at independent schools. We use these assessments to measure our students’ progress and to help further individualize instruction to meet each student’s unique needs. Fewer than six hours of class time per year are spent taking these tests.
Year-to-year, Einstein’s scores on the ERBs improve for each progressive grade/cohort. Individual scores demonstrate that Einstein has a significant, positive impact across the modal distribution of student skills; in other words, Einstein helps all of its learners’ growth and development, no matter their ability.
This excellent performance on the ERBs comes because of our core pedagogical practices. We spend a minimal amount of time preparing our students to specifically take the test; rather, we focus throughout the year on nurturing critical thinkers.
